In September 2019, Georgian power plants generated 821 mln. kWh of electricity. This represents a 3% decrease in total generation, compared to the previous year (in September 2018, the total generation was 849 mln. kWh). The decrease in generation on a yearly basis comes from the decrease of 11% separately in wind and hydropower generation, more than offsetting the increase in thermal power generation (+29%).
On a monthly basis, generation decreased by 19% (in August 2019, total generation was 1,020 mln. kWh). The monthly decrease in total generation was the result of a decrease in electricity produced by wind power plants (-13% with respect to August 2019) and hydropower plants (-31% with respect to August 2019) more than offsetting the increase in thermal power generations (+51% compared to August 2019).
In August 2019, Georgian power plants generated 1,020 mln. kWh of electricity. This represents a 3.6% increase in total generation, compared to the previous year (in August 2018, the total generation was 985 mln. kWh). The increase in generation on a yearly basis comes from the increase in wind (+9%) and hydro power generation (+6%), more than offsetting the decrease in thermal power generation (-8%).
On a monthly basis, generation decreased by 3% (in July 2019, total generation was 1,055 mln. kWh). The monthly decrease in total generation was the result of a decrease in electricity produced by wind power plants (-7% with respect to July 2019) and hydropower plants (-16% with respect to July 2019) more than offsetting a substantial increase in thermal power generations (more than 40-times increase compared to July 2019).
In July 2019, Georgian power plants generated 1,055 mln. kWh of electricity (Figure 1). This represents a 16.8% decrease in total generation, compared to the previous year (in July 2018, the total generation was 1,268 mln. kWh). The decrease in generation on a yearly basis comes from the decrease in thermal (-52%) and hydro power generation (-17%), more than offsetting the increase in wind power generation (+11%).
On a monthly basis, generation decreased by 12% (in June 2019, total generation was 1,198 mln. kWh). The monthly decrease in total generation was the result of a decrease in electricity produced by thermal plants (-52% with respect to June 2019) and hydropower plants (-12% with respect to June 2019) more than offsetting an increase in wind power generations (+63% compared to June 2019).
