On April 17th, ISET was honored to welcome Her Excellency Ms. Maria van der Hoeven, Executive Director of International Energy Agency (IEA), a leading international institution in energy sector. Prior to becoming Executive Director of IEA, Ms. van der Hoeven served as the Minister of Economic Affairs, the Minister of Education, Culture and Science and a member of the parliament of the Netherlands.
Ms. van der Hoeven visited school facilities, met with ISET faculty members and introduced findings of IEA's recent publication "Energy Policies beyond IEA Countries: Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia" to the broader ISET community (hardcopy of this publication is available in our library). Report analyzes current energy challenges and opportunities in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia.
On Wednesday, April 15th, ISET hosted Archil Kbilashvili, former Prosecutor General of Georgia, currently a Partner of Mgaloblishvili-Kipiani-Dzidziguri (MKD) law firm. Mr. Kbilashvili delivered a presentation regarding the principles of law and order to ISET community.
Mr. Kbilashvili started his presentation by explaining the importance and influence of the law on our daily lives. Although we might not even realize it, all the actions we make on everyday bases are regulated by the law. Mr. Kbilashvili brought many examples to firm his statement.
After debriefing the basic principles, Mr. Kbilashvili attempted to clarify the difference between civil and criminal law as two broad and separate entities of law with separate sets of regulations and punishments.
On Thursday, April 2nd, Giorgi Bakradze, the Advisor in Economics Issues to the President of the National Bank of Georgia, gave a public lecture organized by ISET. The main topic of his presentation was Formation of Exchange Rate that addressed currently occurred exchange rate changes. More than 400 students and other interested individuals attended the meeting.
Mr. Bakradze started his presentation by introducing the main concepts of economics such as what is exchange rate, well-known so called the Big Mac Index, what is a difference between fixed and floating exchange rate etc.
