On Thursday, March 26th, Dr. Nani Macharashvili, from TSU delivered a lecture in which she touched the importance of deliberative model of public policy making.
In her first part of presentation she defined conventional and unconventional participation models. As she said ‘Conventional’ participation concerns with institutionalized modes of political action, such as reading about politics, discussion of politics, contacting officials, working for a party and other activities concerning the electoral process. On the other hand ‘unconventional’ forms of political behavior refers to a means of political redress, namely the use of tactics as petitions, demonstrations, boycotts, rent or tax strikes, unofficial industrial strikes, occupations of buildings, blocking of traffic, damage to property, and personal violence”.
On March 12, ISET hosted the Ukrainian delegation within the scope of the project “Ukraine out of Crises through Dialogue” implemented by the Caucasian House. The main purpose of the meeting was to share experience of Georgian economic transformation throughout the last decade. It was the second meeting in the framework of this project. ISET hosted the first delegation in November 2014.
Eric Livny, the president of ISET, presented major Georgian economic reforms that are relevant to Ukraine nowadays. Apart from the military conflict, challenges Ukraine faces today can be somehow compared to those Georgia has overcome in 2003.
On March 6th, ISET hosted Iago Kachkachishvili, Ph.D. under its Lecture Series of Distinguished Professors conducted in cooperation with Tbilisi State University. Iago Kachkachishvili is a Professor of Sociology, Head of the Department of Sociology and Social Work, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Tbilisi State University. Prof. Kachkachishvili delivered a lecture and presentation titled “The Problem of Objectivity in Social Sciences”.
The presenter started the seminar by acquainting the audience with his scientific background and path to the sociology. Later he introduced the topic of the seminar. In order to establish objectivity in social sciences, one has to agree that source of the objective knowledge, somehow, lies in the socium, in the social domain and it might not be given from outside source, such as god, religion or something else. Prof. Kachkachishvili listed three characteristics necessary to establish objectivity.
