The screening of “The Big Short” was organized on Tuesday, April 12, by ISET’s communication department for staff, faculty and students in ISET’s MA and Finance for Professionals programs. “The Big Short” is a 2015 American biographical comedy-drama based on an eponymous non-fiction book released in 2010. Written by Michael Lewis, the book provides insights into the causes of the 2007–2008 global financial crisis, which was triggered by the build-up of a gigantic financial bubble originating in the US housing market.
The movie was followed by a short discussion, led by Jean Frederic Paulsen and Paul Henri Forestier, finance professionals and teachers in ISET executive education programs.
“The Big Short” will be followed by other economics/finance movies:
• “Inside Job” (2010), a documentary by Charles Ferguson, which reviews the 2008 financial crisis
• “Ivory Tower” (2014), a documentary by Andrew Rossi, focusing on the challenges of teaching modern economics
We would like to thank Jean Frederic Paulsen for suggesting this initiative and for supplying popcorn, chips and other movie night attributes.
