ISET

ISET is pleased to announce that Irakli Shalikashvili (who graduated as part of the Class of 2015) was accepted with full university funding for the Economics PhD program at the University of Notre Dame. Having worked for two years as a researcher at the ISET Policy Institute and subsequently as a lecturer, Irakli decided to continue his education abroad. His application was supported by members of ISET’s senior faculty, Daniel Levy, Tornike Kadeishvili and Sergey Chobanyan, who themselves were all accepted to a number of prestigious economics PhD programs in the United States.

Irakli himself also received generous admission offers from other US universities (including Oregon State University, the University of Kansas, Clemson University, Tulane University and George Washington University), but he decided to spend the coming years in South Bend, Indiana, from where Irakli received a University Presidential Fellowship, which is given to students of exceptional academic promise.

We are super excited for our undergrads, Levan Mikeladze’21 and Sergo Gadelia’21 for their huge success!

As a result of a fierce competition, Levan and Sergo became finalists for IMF’s outreach initiative, the Fund Challenge! – Competition targeting undergraduate economics students enrolled at institutions of higher learning in any Middle East and Central Asia Department (MCD) member country.

The competition required participants from 35 MCD countries to complete an online course in Macroeconomic Diagnostics (MDSx), provided online by the IMF, after the successful completion of which they were given a new case study to analyze.
