ISET is an independent academic institution at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU).

• TSU is the oldest university in the Caucasus operating since 1918 and today is the largest provider of teaching programs in Georgia with over 20,000 students, including over 400 foreign students;

• ISET was founded in 2006 with support of the World Bank and Western donors and offers Western-style English-language MA (since 2006) and BA (since 2017) programs in Economics;

The Khachapuri Index is one of the most popular Indexes in Georgia. ISET uses the Khachapuri Index as a simple tool which tracks inflation. The creation of the Khachapuri Index was inspired by the Big Mac Index, made and used by the Economist. ISET’s Khachapuri index uses a basket for calculating inflation that includes only those ingredients that are needed to cook one Imeretian khachapuri - flour, cheese, yeast, milk, eggs, and butter.

International and domestic media outlets often mention the Khachapuri Index while speaking about one of Georgia’s most famous traditional dishes and about Georgia’s economy in general. In November 21, the BBC published an article about khachapuri, which read:
