ISET’s Unique 10th Anniversary Sees Largest and Most Diverse Intake Yet

On the cusp of its tenth anniversary, ISET welcomed its latest batch of students, scheduled to graduate in 2018.
A total of 79 students attended ISET’s summer camp run by Tornike Kadeishvili and Zaza Tevdoradze, with a record high 73 then enrolling to study on for an MA. The prospective Class of 2018 were welcomed to the institution by ISET President Eric Livny, who then introduced members of the staff and faculty. Although the ISET personnel gave the students a warm (and humorous) reception, the true spirit of the ISET community was shown by the Class of 2017, who attended the orientation session and offered their advice and encouragement to ISET’s latest intake. The future 2017 graduates then announced their intent to host a welcome party for their 2018 counterparts;
Libertarianism & Market Failure: Professor David Friedman's Lecture at ISET

On Friday July 15th, Professor David D. Friedman of Santa Clara University gave a presentation entitled “Market Failure Considered as an Argument both for and Against Government”. Professor Friedman is one of the leading libertarian thinkers in the USA and, together with Murray Rothbard, the most influential proponent of so-called anarcho-capitalism.
Before Friedman’s presentation, Professor Florian Biermann of ISET gave an introduction to libertarian political and economic ideologies and clarified some terms and concepts that later came up in Professor Friedman’s presentation. Professor Friedman himself started his presentation by briefly explaining the concept of market failure and showed that it provides arguments against both private markets and any political alternatives.
