On May 8, an ISET team participated in the “Wings for Life World Run 2016” charity event held on Lopota Lake in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia. In total, ISET representatives ran almost 15 kilometres.
The aim of the event is to contribute to the global charity campaign and express solidarity with people with spinal cord injuries. Donations to Wings for Life help towards finding a cure for paralysis; the organization funds world-class scientific research and clinical trials all around the world. In total, ISET's representatives ran almost 15 kilometres.
The World Run 2015 was held in 33 different locations around the globe, according to the official statistics published by the organization, and over 100,000 people participated in the charity marathon this year. Compared to last year, the number of participants in Georgia grew from 5,000 to 7,000.
On May 6, ISET hosted Shang-Jin Wei, Chief Economist at the Asian Development Bank. He gave a presentation entitled 'Asian Development Outlook 2016 – Asia’s Potential Growth'.
According to the key messages of the presentation, development growth in Asia softens to 5.7% in 2016 and 2017 from last year. Furthermore, while CPI (Consumer Price Index) inflation subdued, many economies face harmful PPI (Producer Price Index) deflation. In addition, reforms to raise labor productivity can invigorate developing Asia’s potential growth.
Given the data of the outlook, Asia still accounts for 60% of global growth in PPP (Purchasing Power Parity) terms, or 40% in market exchange rate terms. Moreover, slow recovery in global commodity prices will keep CPI (Consumer Price Index) at a low level in Asia.
